Stars Suffer 5-1 Road Loss in San Jose
January 3, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Texas Stars News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Nikolay Goldobin netted the hat trick to lead the San Jose Barracuda to a 5-1 win over the Texas Stars on Sunday evening at SAP Center.
The Stars' (17-14-2-3) four-game point streak came to an end in the loss. San Jose (14-10-2-3) leaped past Texas to take over third place in the AHL's Pacific Division in the win. It was also the American Hockey League debut for rookie goaltender Philippe Desrosiers, who made 19 saves for Texas.
The Stars close out their three-game road trip on Tuesday against the Ontario Reign at 9 p.m. CST.
Jason Dickinson scored the Stars only goal as part of a three-goal first period where San Jose would take the lead and never look back. Goldobin scored his first of the game at 7:37 to open up the scoring off Chris Tierney's centering pass from behind the net. Dickinson buried a loose puck at the right side of the goal crease 10 minutes later for his seventh of the season off a Greg Rallo assist, which extended the veteran forward's point streak to nine games for Texas and knotted the score at 1-1. The Barracuda took the lead for good at 18:37 with a goal from Jeremy Langlois as the Stars entered the break down 2-1.
In the second, Goldobin snapped home another at 10:35 to extend the San Jose lead, and two more were tacked on in the third at 1:53 by Ryan Carpenter and 7:39 to seal the hat trick performance for Goldobin.
Alex Stalock stopped 21 of 22 shots for the win in his first AHL action since April 2, 2013. Goldobin now has five goals against Texas in three matchups this season.
The Stars power play streak ended at five games after finishing 0-for-2. San Jose went 0-for-3 on the man-advantage.
The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and currently in their seventh season at Cedar Park Center. Full season, 24-game and 12-game ticket packages for the 2015-16 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStars.com.
