Maddox's Three-Hit Effort Not Enough in Erie Loss

Will Maddox ended a great doubleheader with a three-hit performance in game two, but Erie (49-53) dropped a 7-5 loss to Richmond (47-54).

Erie racked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the second off of Richmond's starter Chris Heston. Kody Eaves led off the inning with a double, and was sent to third on a Will Maddox single. Heston plunked Chad Sedio to load the bases, giving Josh Thole the chance to push a run in on a sac fly to left. Danny Woodrow dribbled a single in the infield, allowing Maddox to score from third and Erie led 2-0 after two innings.

Richmond snatched the lead on a Luigi Rodriguez three run shot in the fourth inning on Kyle Dowdy.

Erie tied the game back up in the bottom of the fourth inning. Will Maddox doubled to lead the frame off on Ryan Halstead, eventually touching home on a Herlis Rodriguez sacrifice fly to right field.

The Flying Squirrels took the lead and never looked back in the fifth inning. Caleb Gindl doubled a run home in the fifth, eventually scoring on a Ryan Howard sac fly. Dylan Davis hit a solo shot to end Dowdy's outing, putting Richmond up 6-3.

Richmond punched another run onto the scoreboard in the sixth inning on a Ali Castillo RBI single to elevate the Squirrels' lead to 7-3.

Erie racked up the final two runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth on RBI groundouts from Thole and Rodriguez.

Dusten Knight (3-0) earned the win for Richmond after dealing 1.1 IP scoreless, while Dowdy (3-4) received the loss after giving up six runs on six hits through 4.2 IP, with two walks and six strikeouts. Dillion McNamara hurled a scoreless seventh to achieve his fifth save.

The SeaWolves open up a four game home series Thursday at UPMC Park against the Akron RubberDucks at 7:05 PM.
