Bridgeport Islanders News Release

HARTFORD, Conn. - An explosive first and third period powered the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to their fourth straight win, this one over the Hartford Wolf Pack by the score of 6-1 on Friday night at XL Center.

Three goals in the first and three in the third led to another rout for the Sound Tigers, as five different Sound Tigers found the back of the net.

Justin Courtnall opened the scoring for the Sound Tigers, finding the back of the net just four minutes into the contest. Courtnall walked out all alone into the slot and fired a backhander past Cedrick Desjardins for a 1-0 lead.

It took until late in the first for Bridgeport to really do their damage. With just over three minutes left in the frame, Mike Halmo took advantage of a favorable bounce for his third goal of the season. Not two minutes later, Alan Quine ripped one past Desjardins to give the Sound Tigers a 3-0 lead after one period of play.

The Wolf Pack got one back in the second, as Ryan Haggerty buried a rebound on the doorstop to cut the Bridgeport lead to 3-1. It was Haggerty's third of the season, but it was all Hartford would get by Kevin Poulin.

The score could've been even more lopsided in the second if not for some strong play by Poulin. The Sound Tigers were outshot 17-4 in the middle frame, but the Bridgeport netminder stopped all but one of the shots he faced, including a couple of dazzlers.

Poulin kept up the strong play in the third, making a wonderful kick save on Haggerty on a 2-on-1, then stopping J.T. Miller in the slot just moments later.

The saves paid off, as Ryan Pulock scored the dagger for the Sound Tigers, wristing one by Desjardins midway through the third. Moments later, it was Poulin again, this time with a double save, to prevent the Wolf Pack from getting any closer.

Colin McDonald finished off the scoring, as he netted the final two for Bridgeport to make it 6-1. McDonald closed the game with two goals and two assists, matching his season total in the one game.

Lost in all the offense, the third line was dominant for the Tigers. Courtnall, Johan Sundstrom and Colton Gillies all were hounds for Bridgeport, cycling in the offensive zone nearly every possession.

Poulin ended up with 34 saves on the night, earning the game's third star. Special teams were irrelevant on the night, as both teams went 0-for on the power play.

The Sound Tigers and Wolf Pack match up again tomorrow night, as they take the ice at Webster Bank Arena at 7 p.m.

Notes: Courtnall's tally was the first in over 230 minutes for the Sound Tigers against the Wolf Pack...Quine now has a four-game goal streak and an AHL-best eight-game scoring streak...Halmo has at least one point in his last three games...This is the first game the Sound Tigers have won this season when not scoring a power play goal.
