Reno Aces News Release

RENO, Nev.- Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Willie Bloomquist is scheduled to join the Reno Aces on Friday night to begin his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment, the organization announced today.

Bloomquist was placed on the D-backs 15-day Disabled List on March 27, with a right intercostal strain. He was 10-for-37 (.270) with four doubles and six RBI in 13 Spring Training games with the D-backs, and went 0-for-2 with a run scored in two appearances with Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.

The 35-year-old Washington native is in his third season in the D-backs organization, after signing as a free agent in January 2011. Bloomquist is just one of five Major League players since 2006 to play at least 50 games at second base (64), shortstop (211), third base (58) and in the outfield (280).

A product of Arizona State University, Bloomquist set career highs in average (.302) and doubles (21) with the D-backs last season.

D-backs infielder Didi Gregorius and outfielders Adam Eaton and Cody Ross also completed Major League Rehab Assignments with the Aces earlier this season.

The Aces kick off a four-game Memorial Day Weekend series against the Tacoma Rainiers, the top affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, tomorrow night at Aces Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a 1:05 p.m. start Sunday and Monday.

Tickets are on sale for the upcoming series, and all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
