Orlando returns to the Amway Center tonight after playing their last six games and 17 of their last 22 games on the road. The last time the Solar Bears suited up on
home ice, they took two straight victories over the Florida Everblades, including an 8-4 victory on December 28. The Solar Bears have undergone extensive roster changes over the past two weeks, seeing F Ryan Reaves head to the NHL and D Josh Caron, D Michael Wilson, and D Bryce Lampman earn recalls to the American Hockey League. Wheeling got off to a slow start with a 6-10-5 record to begin the season. They then won six straight games from December 15 through December 22, and come into Orlando as winners of five of their last six games including three wins in a row.
Solar Bears Notes:
Seven current members of the Solar Bears have not yet played a home game. They include: D Alain Goulet, D Nicholas Kuqali, F Dan Dries, F Spencer Bennett, C Darick Ste-Marie, F Mike Sgroi, and D Jesse Dudas... Orlando has played just 15 games at home, the fewest of any team in the ECHL... The Solar Bears are third in the ECHL with an average attendance of 6,528 fans per game... D/F Mike Liambas is third in the ECHL with 143 PIM... Orlando announced earlier this month that the Solar Bears will inform the League at the League mid-season meetings of their intentions to place a bid to host the 2015 All-Star Game. The meetings will be held in Loveland, Colorado, during the All-Star break next week... LW Nick Petersen was named to the ECHL All-Star Team earlier this month, making him the first Solar Bear to be selected as an ECHL All-Star .
Nailers Notes:
Wheeling has played the most games past regulation, going to overtime or a shootout 12 times this season... G Scott Darling is tied for eighth with a 2.54 GAA... The Nailers are 14-3-2 when scoring first... Wheeling is 8th on the power play at 20.4 percent (29-for-142) and 14th on the penalty kill at 82.6 percent (123-for-149)... F Scott Zurevinski leads the Nailers with 10 goals and 16 points ... F Cam Fergus leads the team with 8 assists.
