Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - River Cats pitcher Graham Godfrey has been chosen to represent the Pacific Coast League in the 25th Annual Triple-A All-Star Game on July 11 in Buffalo, N.Y., becoming the 21st all-star in Sacramento's 13-year history.
Godfrey, who leads the PCL with a 2.18 ERA, is 7-0 on the year with 46 strikeouts and 12 walks in 66 innings pitched with the River Cats. He is the only player in the PCL to have won two Pitcher of the Week awards this season (week of April 30-May 6 and June 4-10). Since last season, Godfrey is 21-3 in PCL games and has allowed three or fewer runs in 10-of-11 Triple-A starts this season. He has also made five appearances at the big-league level in 2012, going 0-4 with a 6.43 ERA in 21 innings with the A's.
Four current River Cats were previously named to Triple-A All-Star teams (Daric Barton, 2007; Josh Donaldson, 2010; Anthony Recker and Eric Sogard, 2011). The lone River Cats Triple-A All-Star to play in an MLB All-Star Game is Justin Duchscherer, who represented the PCL as a River Cat in 2003 and the American League as an Oakland Athletic in 2005 and 2008.
In addition, former River Cat Brandon Moss was leading all PCL position players in votes before earning a promotion to Oakland earlier this month. Moss hit .286 with 15 home runs in 51 games with Sacramento this season. Since being called up to the Athletics, the first baseman has hit .222 with seven homers and 12 RBIs in just 19 games. He was named American League Player of the Week on June 18.
The Triple-A All-Star festivities begin on Monday, July 9, with the Home Run Derby. The game itself-which pits the PCL against the Triple-A International League-will be played on July 11 at 4 p.m., and will be televised live on MLB Network.
