ROUND ROCK, Texas - Derek Hankins picked up his second win in his last three starts as the Round Rock Express edged the Nashville Sounds 4-2 in Thursday night's Pacific Coast League action at The Dell Diamond. The Express (37-44) evened the series 1-1 and the season series 3-3. The Sounds (32-49) have lost 15 of their last 18 at The Dell Diamond.
Hankins (3-4) matched his longest outing of the season, going five frames. He allowed two runs on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Neal Cotts, Willie Eyre, Yoshinori Tateyama and Aaron Heilman each worked a scoreless inning to close the game. Heilman recorded his sixth save, all of which came in his last nine outings.
Yangervis Solarte had the game-winning hit, a two-out, RBI single in the fourth that snapped a 2-2 tie. Ryan Spilborghs added an RBI double in the fifth.
Nashville starter Mark Rogers (3-5) shouldered the loss; he allowed four runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts over six innings. Juan Perez and Amaury Rivas each logged a scoreless inning of relief.
Dusty Brown snapped a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the second, his fourth round-tripper of the season. Andy Gonzalez tied the game in the top of the fourth with a two-run homer of his own.
Solarte had Round Rock's lone multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3. Luis Hernandez walked twice.
Jeff Bianchi and Caleb Gindl both had two-hit outings for the Sounds.
Round Rock and Nashville conclude their three-game series Friday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Left-hander Zach Jackson (3-8, 5.09 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Brian Baker (1-3, 6.00 ERA) is slated as the Sounds starter.
