OKLAHOMA CITY - The Pacific Coast League has announced three Oklahoma City RedHawks have been selected to the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game in Buffalo, New York on Wednesday, July 11.
First baseman Mike Hessman, second baseman Jimmy Paredes, and catcher Landon Powell are part of the Pacific Coast League's 30-man All-Star roster as they take on the International League All-Stars in the 25th Annual Triple-A All-Star Game.
Hessman, 34, was voted as the PCL's starting first baseman. He currently is tied for the league lead with 23 homers, ranks second with a .627 slugging percentage, and is 10th with 50 RBIs. Although Hessman got off to a slow start in the season's opening month, he is hitting .315 with 21 homers and 43 RBIs since the start of May.
On June 3 against the Iowa Cubs, Hessman became the fifth player in franchise history to hit three home runs in a game. He homered twice the next day as well, becoming just the third player in PCL history to hit five home runs over two consecutive games.
Hessman returns to Coca-Cola Field, where he played 64 games for the Buffalo Bisons in 2010. His 352 career Minor League home runs are the best among active players.
Second baseman Jimmy Paredes will be making a trip to a mid-season all-star game for the third time in four seasons. The 23-year-old is hitting .311 with six homers and 34 RBIs. His 91 hits rank ninth in the PCL and are the most among Astros farmhands. He also is third in the league with 23 stolen bases.
Catcher Landon Powell, 30, is the RedHawks' third representative. In his first year in the Astros organization, Powell is hitting .279 with six homers and 25 RBIs. He has thrown out 41.3 percent of opposing base stealers, ranking only second in the league behind teammate Carlos Corporan.
The game will start at 6 p.m. central time and will be broadcast live on MLB Network, the American Forces Network, and the Triple-A All-Star Game Radio Network.
The RedHawks return from the road for a four-game series against the Memphis Redbirds starting Saturday, June 30 at 7:05 p.m. and culminating with the Independence Day Celebration on Tuesday, July 3.
