Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Right-handed pitchers Eric Hacker and Heath Hembree have been elected to the 2012 Pacific Coast League Mid-Season All-Star team, the league office announced today. Hacker enters Thursday tied for the PCL-lead in wins with 10 while Hembree's team-leading 13 saves are tied for the third-most in the league.
Hacker, 29, has been the ace of the Grizzlies pitching staff all season. The Duncanville, Texas native won his first four starts with the Grizzlies before earning a one-start promotion to the Major Leagues with the San Francisco Giants on April 27th. Hacker is 10-3 with a 4.37 earned run average in 15 starts with Fresno this season while striking out 63 and walking 28.
Hembree, 23, is in his first season at Triple-A and has a record of 1-1 with a 4.13 ERA in 29 appearances. The Spartanburg, South Carolina native is 13-for-15 in save opportunities and is holding his opponents to a .188 batting average against. Hembree was named the PCL's Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 23-29. This will be his second career All-Star nod as he was named to the California League's Mid-Season All-Star team in 2011.
This is the first time since the Grizzlies' inaugural season in 1998 that two pitchers from Fresno have been named Mid-Season All-Stars. The 2012 Grizzlies pitching staff is third in the PCL in team ERA (4.19).
Hacker and Hembree join Grizzlies hitting coach Russ Morman and radio broadcaster Doug Greenwald as representatives of the team at the All-Star Game. Morman will serve as a coach and Greenwald will call the action for the game's radio broadcast.
The PCL All-Stars will face the International League All-Stars in the 25th annual Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 11th at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, New York, home of the IL's Buffalo Bisons.
