Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY (June 28, 2012) - The Pacific Coast League announced today that Bees outfielder Kole Calhoun has been named to the 2012 PCL All-Star Team. Calhoun will suit up for the 25th annual Triple-A All-Star Game, slated for July 11 at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, N.Y., when the PCL squad takes on the International League All-Stars at the home of the IL's Buffalo Bisons. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast live on MLB Network.
Calhoun, a 24-year-old native of Buckeye, Ariz., has appeared in 58 games for the Bees in 2012, hitting .316 with 19 doubles, five triples, and a team-high nine home runs. He also leads the team with 49 RBI, 129 total bases and 47 runs scored. Calhoun made his major league debut with the Angels earlier this season on May 22, entering the game as a defensive replacement for Mark Trumbo in the ninth inning against the Oakland Athletics. He recorded his first major league hit the following day on a double off A's pitcher Jarrod Parker. In eight games with the Angels, he hit .250 with one double and one stolen base.
In 2011, Calhoun was named the Angels Organization's Minor League Player of the Year after hitting .324 with 22 home runs and 99 RBI in 133 games with Single-A Inland Empire. Calhoun was also named a 2011 California League Postseason All-Star.
2012 will mark the 15th showdown under the current IL vs. PCL format, as the first 10 contests pitted All-Stars selected from National League affiliates against those from the American League. The IL currently leads the series at 8-6. Additional information about the Triple-A All-Star Game and its festivities can be found on the official websites of the Pacific Coast League (www.pclbaseball.com), the International League (www.ilbaseball.com), and the Buffalo Bisons (www.bisons.com).
The Salt Lake Bees continue a five-game road series tonight against the Sacramento River Cats at 8:05 p.m. The team returns home on July 4 to take on the Tacoma Rainiers at 7:05 p.m. with a postgame fireworks show. 2012 Bees season tickets are on sale now with prices starting at just $432 per person.
