Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers topped Reno 9-1 at Cheney Stadium on Thursday night, snapping the club's 16-game losing streak to the Aces.
Vinnie Catricala gave the Rainiers an early 2-0 lead after hitting a single to center field that scored Alex Liddi and Carlos Peguero.
Tacoma's advantage stretched to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to Carlos Triunfel's two-run home run off Aces starter Patrick Corbin. The homer was Triunfel's sixth this season.
Infielder Nick Franklin, in his first Triple-A appearance, capped off a five run frame for the Rainiers in the bottom of the eighth inning after lining a two-run double off the outfield wall, then scoring on a throwing error by the Aces right fielder.
Tacoma combined to collect 13 hits in the contest, with Alex Liddi, Luis Jimenez and Adam Moore all turning two-hit efforts. Franklin ended the night going 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a pair of RBI.
Starter Blake Beavan (1-0) picked up his first win with Tacoma this season after holding the Aces to one run on nine hits while walking two and fanning three over 7.0 innings. Reliever Scott Patterson earned his first save of the season after striking out three over 1.1 hitless, scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth.
The Rainiers (30-43) host the final game of the club's four-game series with the Aces (45-29) tomorrow, June 21. Right-hander Brian Sweeney (2-1, 4.53) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against right-hander Charles Brewer (3-4, 5.50) for Reno. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
