Fisher Cats Bite the Sea Dogs 8-3

Portland, Maine- Tuesday evening was "Bark in the Park" night at the Sea Dogs but it was the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (28-16) who did all the barking, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs 8-3 at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs fall to 13-28 on the season.
Rey Gonzalez held the Sea Dogs offense scoreless through seven innings before Portland was finally able to get to him in the eighth inning. Gonzalez (6-1) earned his sixth win of the season scattering eight hits and allowing three runs in seven innings. He walked one and struck out five.
Chih Hsien Chiang led the Portland offense with a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored and two RBI. Chiang delivered a two run triple, his first of the season, in the eighth to score Jeremy Hazelbaker and Alex Hassan. Chiang would score on a Will Middlebrooks sacrifice fly to complete the Portland scoring.
Meanwhile, the New Hampshire offense pounded out 16 hits scoring eight runs. Travis d'Arnaud was the offensive star for New Hampshire with a 3-for-5 performance with three runs scored and a RBI.
The Fisher Cats jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning when Darin Mastroianni led the game off with a single and would score on an Anthony Gose sacrifice fly.
d' Arnaud lead off the second inning with his third home run of the season to extend the lead to 2-0. Mike McDade would add a RBI double in the fifth scoring Gose making it 3-0.
The 'Cats would chase the 'Dogs starter Michael Lee (1-4) from the game in the sixth. d'Arnaud doubled and scored on a RBI double by Craig Stansberry forcing Lee from the game. Caleb Clay relieved Lee and surrendered a two run home run to Callix Crabbe as New Hampshire grabbed a commanding 6-0 lead.
Lee suffered his fourth loss of the season allowing five runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings pitched. He did not walk a batter and struck out four.
Clay would only last 1.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits including a RBI single to Ricardo Nanita in the seventh as New Hampshire scored twice in the seventh inning to take an 8-0 lead. Clay gave way to Eammon Portice who was able to stop the bleeding, retiring the side on four pitches in the eighth and pitching a scoreless ninth.
The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats are back in action Wednesday night at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field. The pitching match-up will feature Sea Dogs' righty Alex Wilson (4-3, 3.27) facing New Hampshire righty Henderson Alvarez (1-0, 1.50). The first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark on Wednesday will receive a Webkinz, courtesy of Northeast Delta Dental.
