Rain Precipitates Early Finish to B-Mets' 7-3 Loss

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Binghamton dropped its seventh straight game with a 7-3 loss to New Britain Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium. The game was called after seven-plus innings due to torrential rain that rendered an already wet field unplayable. Josh Satin provided the lone offensive highlight with a three-run home run just prior to the tarp being placed on the field.

Binghamton (13-27) sent Brandon Moore to the mound in an attempt to end the skid, and Moore pitched well until the fifth inning when his outing went south. Already in possession of a 1-0 lead, the Rock Cats got the leadoff runner aboard with a single to left from Steve Singleton. Joe Benson walked with one out and was replaced at first by Chris Parmelee on a fielder's choice to short. Moore had a chance to get out of the inning when Evan Bigley yanked a hot shot to third, but Satin could not handle the groundball and was charged with an error. Singleton scored on the play.

The error led to a landslide inning. Yangervis Solarte followed with an RBI single before Deibinson Romero powered his first home run of the season, a three-run blast to left which capped the scoring. Moore allowed a double to Michael Hollimon before being pulled from the game in favor of Eric Niesen, who ended the inning. When the dust had settled, the Rock Cats had managed five runs and led 6-0.

Moore was hung with his third straight loss and failed to make it through five innings for the third straight outing as well. He was charged with six runs - one earned - on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Meanwhile, New Britain (25-16) starter Liam Hendriks carried a shutout into the eighth. He walked Lorenzo Scott to start the inning and allowed a single to Jon Malo. Satin plated both runners when he swung at a first-pitch fastball from Hendriks and drove it out of the yard to right for his fourth homer of the year. As Rock Cats' manager Jeff Smith went to the mound for a pitching change, the umpiring crew called for the tarp to be placed on the field, which proved to be end of the game.

Hendriks was credited with his second consecutive complete game, both of seven innings or less in duration. In seven-plus innings, he allowed three runs on eight hits and tied a season-high with nine strikeouts. The win was the fourth of the season for the Australian right-hander.

Jon Malo provided the only multi-hit showing for the B-Mets with a 2-for-4 night. New Britain outhit Binghamton 11-8. Hollimon led the Rock Cats with a 3-for-3 performance including two doubles.

The series with the Rock Cats continues with a doubleheader beginning at 5:05 PM Wednesday. LHP Mark Cohoon (1-3, 3.69) will start Game 1 for Binghamton opposite RHP Bobby Lanigan (4-3, 3.38) of New Britain. Game 2 pits RHP Brad Holt (1-3, 3.72) against LHP Spencey Steedley (2-1, 4.05).
