Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY (December 17, 2010) - Jim O'Brien tallied three points (1g, 2a), Robin Lehner stopped all 25 shots he faced and seven different players scored a goal for the home team, as the Syracuse Crunch were shut out for the third time in a row against the Binghamton Senators tonight, dropping a 7-0 decision to their I-81 rivals at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Crunch came out with some scoring chances early in the first period, but Lehner made a number of key saves, keeping Syracuse off the board.

Binghamton seemed to build on the momentum from Lehner's strong play and capitalized when Colin Greening found a loose puck in front of the net after eluding his defender and chipped a backhand over the shoulder of Timo Pielmeier to make it a 1-0 game at the 4:44 mark.

Kaspars Daugavins made it a 2-0 contest about 10 minutes later on the power play when he skated right through the Crunch defense and snapped a shot past Pielmeier to start a flurry of offense for Binghamton.

The Senators took a 3-0 lead when Zack Smith's wrister from the top of the right circle deflected off of Pielmeier's glove and into the back of the net just over two minutes later.

Erik Condra capped the scoring for Binghamton in the game's first 20 minutes when Corey Locke found him all alone in front of the Crunch net and Condra faked to his forehand and slid the puck underneath Pielmeier to give his club a commanding 4-0 lead.

The second period did not get any easier for the Crunch, as O'Brien slammed home a centering feed at the 12:33 mark on the power play past the stick side of J.P. Levasseur, who replaced Pielmeier to start the stanza.

Binghamton kept pouring it on and went up 6-0 with just 30 seconds left in the second frame when Bobby Butler scored his 16th of the season and sixth of the year against the Crunch.

The Senators took a 7-0 lead on their third power play goal of the game when Mike Hoffman found Roman Wick in the slot and Wick ripped a slapper past Levasseur at the 6:26 mark of the third period.

CRUNCHABLES: The Crunch's four goals allowed in the first period was the sixth time Syracuse has allowed at least four goals in a single period this season. The three power play goals allowed tonight tied a season-high and was the third time the Crunch have done that this year.Timo Pielmeier was pulled tonight for the fifth time this season in 18 starts...With his seven penalty minutes tonight, Jon Mirasty is now three PIM's away from tying Brandon Sugden for second on the Crunch's all-time list.
