Game 30 | Home Game 17 | AHL Game 440
Dec. 17, 2010, 6:05 pm CST | Cox Convention Center
Broadcast: KXY 96.1 FM
TONIGHT: The Hamilton Bulldogs make their only trip to Oklahoma City to conclude a 2-game season series. OKC beat the Montreal Canadiens' affiliate 3-2 in overtime Oct. 24 in a nationally televised game at Copps Coliseum. Alexandre Giroux scored the winner 3:58 into overtime against Robert Mayer. OKC brings a 6-game home unbeaten streak (in regulation or OT) into tonight, going 4-0-0-2 in the last 6 at home. The Barons are tied for third, 1 point behind Peoria and 5 back of San Antonio. Hamilton and Abbotsford are tied for first in the North, 3 points up on Toronto.
PK REMAINS NO. 1: The Barons own the AHL's top penalty killing percentage at 89.8. Since allowing a season-high 3 power play goals at Lake Erie Nov. 27, the Barons have successfully killed 37 of their last 39 times short spanning 6 full games, a 94.9 percent rate.
MORE SPECIAL TEAMS TALK: OKC enters tonight's game having not scored a power play goal in its last 3 games, going a combined 0-for-13 during a 3 games in 3 nights stretch against Manitoba Dec. 10, Rockford Dec. 11 and Milwaukee Dec. 12, the latter two on the road. The Barons' last power play goal was scored by Alexandre Giroux Dec. 7 vs. Houston. OKC had one unsuccessful power play chance following Giroux's goal that night, so the complete streak is 14 straight man advantages without scoring dating to Dec. 7. OKC has had the most power chances in the AHL so far with 162.
DIVISIONAL DOINGS: The Barons are 8-2-0-1 against teams from the North Division and 8-7-1-2 vs. the West. OKC's 16 wins are also evenly split between home (8-5-1-2) and road games (8-4-0-1). The Barons are 4-0-0-0 vs. North clubs at the Cox Center, having beaten Lake Erie twice, plus Toronto and Manitoba once.
LIAM REDDOX, CHART TOPPER: Liam Reddox has scored the game's first goal in each of the last 2 contests, taking the league lead with 6 "first goals." Reddox, the club leader in goals with 15, is tied for second in the AHL in goals. Reddox is tied for the league lead in unassisted goals with 3 and is part of a 3-way tie for the AHL lead in shorthanded goals with 4. Reddox has more shorthanded goals by himself than 18 AHL teams.
GIROUX APPROACHES MILESTONE: Alexandre Giroux enters tonight's game one point away from 600 for his AHL career, a plateau reached by only 43 other players in league history. On Friday, Giroux was named by league President and CEO David Andrews one of two playing captains for the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross, Jan. 30-31 at Giant Center in Hershey, Pa. Giroux won back-to-back Calder Cups as a Hershey Bear the past 2 seasons.
PETRY A PLUS: Rookie defenseman Jeff Petry has 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists) in the past 5 games. He's +5 in that span and +9 in the past 13 games. He's had a zero or plus rating in 12 of the past 13 games. Petry is tied for fourth in the AHL in points by a defenseman with 20 and is sixth in rookie scoring. He had 3-game goal and 4-game point streaks snapped on Sunday at Milwaukee.
MCDONALD MATCHES CAREER BEST: Colin McDonald has equaled his career high goal total 29 games into the season. McDonald netted his 13th of the season on Saturday at Rockford, matching his career high set last year when he had 12 for Springfield and 1 for Edmonton. McDonald is in his fourth season out of Providence College. He was an Oilers' second-round pick (51st overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
