TinCaps fade in 12-5 loss

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The TinCaps surged to an early lead but ran out of steam in a 12-5 loss to the South Bend Silver Hawks, Wednesday at Coveleski Stadium. Jonathan Galvez had two hits including a home run.

The first four TinCaps singled, including Nate Frieman who drove in a pair of runs with a chopper into left field. Jedd Gyorko plated another run with a fielder's choice later in the frame.

South Bend chipped into the deficit in the bottom of the inning. Ender Inciarte's triple capped the two-run inning. In the second, Chris Jarrett roped a bases-loaded double into the right-field corner to chase home all three runners and give the Silver Hawks a 5-3 lead. Bobby Borchering's two-out double made it 6-3. The Silver Hawks scored another run in the third and two more in the fourth before tacking on a pair in the sixth to make it 11-3.

In the seventh, Galvez led off with a smash over the left-field wall.

An inning later, South Bend scored an unearned run to make it 12-4. Edinson Rincon crushed a leadoff home run in the ninth to end the scoring.

South Bend LHP Mike Belfiore (3-10) worked seven innings to pick up the win. TinCaps RHP Matt Jackson (4-2) took the loss.

Fort Wayne fell to 38-26 in the half, 75-60 for the season. The Silver Hawks improved to 27-37 in the second half, 57-75 for the year.

The TinCaps continue the three-game road series against the Silver Hawks (Class-A Arizona Diamondbacks) Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Matt Lollis (5-1) gets the start against South Bend RHP Andrew Wolcott (2-4).
