Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed forward Mark Magnowski for the remainder of the 2009-10 season.
The native of Winnipeg, MB joins the Salmon Kings after finishing 30 games with Princeton University (NCAA) this season scoring 27 points (10g-17a) and registering eight penalty minutes. Magnowski also played the previous three seasons with the Tigers where he amassed 60 points (29g-31a) in 99 games while serving 48 minutes in penalties.
The 5-10, 160 lb. forward spent two seasons (2004-05 and 2005-06) in the United States Hockey League (USHL) prior to his time at school. In 120 career USHL games between the Green Bay Gamblers and Sioux Falls Stampede, Magnowski scored 37 goals and assisted on 46 others for 83 points with 59 minutes in penalties. As captain of the Stampede in 2005-06 Magnowski dressed for 14 playoff games where he tallied 12 points (5g-7a) and eight penalty minutes.
The 23-year-old rookie began his junior hockey career during the 2003-04 season with the Winnipeg Saints of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). In 63 games that year with the Saints he recorded 71 points (31g-40a) and 16 penalty minutes and was selected to the league's All-Rookie team.
The Salmon Kings begin a six-game road trip tonight in Stockton, before traveling to Bakersfield for two games and Idaho for three. Victoria returns home for a three-game set versus the Utah Grizzlies with contests on Wednesday, March 31st, Friday, April 2nd, and Saturday, April 3rd.
