New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- David Smith drilled a two-run home run, Scott Campbell smashed a three-run homer and Brandon Magee matched a career high with seven strikeouts in seven strong innings of work as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats handed the New Britain Rock Cats a 6-3 defeat before a standing-room-only crowd of 6,918 Saturday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Smith (2-for-3, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, BB) gave New Hampshire (39-60) a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when he lifted his fifth home run of the season off losing pitcher Kyle Aselton just over the wall in right-centerfield.

New Britain (41-58) got one back in the top of the third inning against Magee when Felix Molina (2-for-4, HR, 2B, RBI, 2 R) doubled to right-centerfield and scored on a single to left from Drew Butera (1-for-3, RBI, BB), cutting the Fisher Cats' lead to 2-1.

Ryan Klosterman (1-for-5, 2B, R) doubled and scored when J.P. Arencibia (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) doubled off Aselton, giving New Hampshire a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Aselton (4-4) allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings in the defeat. The left-hander struck out four and walked two.

Magee (3-11) scattered four hits over seven innings to win for the third time in his last four decisions. The right-hander struck out seven batters in a game for the first time in nearly a year and walked two.

In the eighth inning, the Fisher Cats received important insurance runs off reliever Ryan Mullins when Campbell (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R) lofted a majestic home run, his sixth, over the rightfield line with two men on base to stake New Hampshire to a 6-1 lead.

The Rock Cats made it interesting when Brock Peterson (1-for-4, HR, RBI) and Molina hit back-to-back home runs off Orlando Roman on the first two pitches of the ninth inning. But Roman would retire two batters, and Zach Dials recorded the final out to notch his 14th save.

New Hampshire looks for its third straight win Sunday afternoon when right-hander Robert Ray (3-4, 3.80) pitches against New Britain right-hander Yohan Pino (3-3, 4.00) in a 1:05pm game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Radio coverage begins at 12:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy.

The first 1,000 kids in attendance on Sunday afternoon receive a FREE Northeast Delta Dental Northern Division All-Star Jersey. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
