GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that outfielder DJ Hollingsworth has joined the Oakland farm system and will make his A's organizational debut as a Cougar. Hollingsworth, a 14th round selection by the Yankees in 2006, was recently released by New York before signing as a free agent with Oakland earlier today. Also, pitchers Scott Mitchinson and Tyson Ross have been placed on the disabled list. Mitchinson goes on the DL with a right elbow injury, retroactive to June 24, while a right shoulder ailment has sidelined Ross, retroactive to June 29.

Hollingsworth, a 23-year old from Tracy, CA arrives in Kane County after spending time with the Staten Island Yankees, New York's Short-A affiliate. Playing in five games for Staten Island this month, Hollingsworth batted .333 in nine at-bats.

Mitchinson moves to the disabled list after starting in 12 games this season for the Cougars. Ross, a 2nd round pick from last month's draft, joined the Cougars on June 23 as the first '08 draft selection to arrive at Kane County.
