Dayton Dragons News Release
Midland, Mich.-Jason Bour (pronounced BOAR) hit his first home run of the season and drove in three runs as the Dayton Dragons defeated the Great Lakes Loons 4-2 on Tuesday night. The win improved the Dragons to 6-7 in the second half.
Dayton built a 4-0 lead over the first four innings before Great Lakes rallied to pull within two runs with the tying run on base sixth, but Dragons reliever Jeff Jeffords came out of the bullpen to retire the final 12 batters of the game including six on strikeouts to earn the save.
The Dragons took the lead in the top of the first inning. Keltavious Jones singled to center on the first pitch of the game, went to second on Justin Reed's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Logan Parker's single to right to make it 1-0.
In the second, Angel Cabrera legged out an infield hit with one out and Bour followed with a two-run home run to left to make it 3-0.
In the fourth, Cabrera blooped a one-out single to left and scored on a close play at the plate when Boar doubled to the fence in left-center field to give the Dragons a 4-0 lead.
Great Lakes battled back, scoring once in the fifth and once in the sixth against Dragons starting pitcher Luis Montano. Jeffords entered the game in the sixth and pitched out of further trouble, stranding runners at first and third. The former University of South Carolina star then added three more perfect innings of relief to earn his third save of the season.
Montano became the Dragons' first eight game winner (8-5) by picking up the victory. He worked five innings, allowing five hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.
The Dragons meet the Loons on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Matt Klinker (3-4, 4.13) will start for Dayton.
