Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

June 30, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels extend a huge round of applause to fans, players and advertisers for their generous donations to local flood relief efforts.

During the last home stand and two U.S. Military All-Star games, the Kernels asked fans to bring non-perishable food items to the stadium as part of the Freedom From Hunger Food Drive. This food was in turn donated to the HACAP Food Reservoir for distribution to people in need through local food pantries. Over two tons, that's 4,000 pounds, of food was collected!

In addition, the Dale and Thomas Popcorn Company donated over 7,700 pounds of popcorn products and their trucking company, Global Transport, donated the truck shipping to Cedar Rapids. In all, nearly six tons of food was collected for the HACAP Food Reservoir and local flood relief.

Also, members of the Kernels' Pep Crew went through the crowds accepting monetary contributions to the American Red Cross. Thanks to the generosity of you fans, $6,500 was raised for the Red Cross to assist with flood relief. And, former Kernel Trevor Bell and his family made a donation of $2,500 to the Red Cross.

Finally, the Kernels Foundation announced that the proceeds from their season-long Harley Raffle would be donated towards local flood relief. Tickets for this raffle are on sale now through September 1st, when the raffle winner will be drawn before the Kernels game vs. Clinton.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels salute all our fans, players and sponsors for their help towards local flood relief.
