Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Peoria Chiefs defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-1 on the strength of a four run fourth inning and solid performances by three pitchers Monday night on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The loss extended Wisconsin's losing streak to a season-high five games. The win gave the Chiefs a season-high eight game winning streak.

Peoria (8-5 second half, 38-43 overall) broke the scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the fourth off Wisconsin starting pitcher Michael Pineda. Jovan Rosa drove in the first two runs with a double. He would score moments later on an RBI double by Luis Bautista. The Chiefs went up 4-0 on a sacrifice fly by Cliff Andersen.

Peoria starting pitcher Kevin Kreier allowed one hit and walked three while keeping the Rattlers off the scoreboard for the first 3-1/3 inning. But, he came out of the game with an undisclosed injury after getting a strikeout for the second out of the fourth. Kreier's final line was 3-2/3 scoreless innings in a no decision. He was replaced by Zach Ashwood who got the final out of the inning.

Wisconsin (3-10, 34-45) broke through against Ashwood in the seventh inning. A two-out RBI single by Maximo Mendez drove in Joe Dunigan. It also drove Ashwood from the game. Jordan Latham got the final out of the seventh and worked a perfect eighth.

The Chiefs tacked on a run in the top of the ninth on an RBI grounder by Gian Guzman.

Wisconsin threw a bit of a scare into Latham and the Chiefs in the bottom of the ninth as they loaded the bases with two outs. But, Latham secured the victory and his second save by getting a strikeout for the final out of the game.

Game two of the series between the Rattlers and the Chiefs is Wednesday afternoon. Juan Ramirez (3-6, 4.25) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Robert Hernandez (0-0, 5.55) is set to start for the Chiefs. Game time is 12:05pm.
