
June Players of the Month Nominees Announced

DAYTON, OH - For the third consecutive season, the Dayton Dragons and 1410 ESPN Radio WING AM have teamed up to honor the Dayton Dragons 1410 ESPN Radio Hitter and Pitcher of the Month. Fans can log on to www.daytondragons.com upon the completion of each month and vote for who they feel were the best Dragons players over the past 30 days.
Each month, three hitters and three pitchers will be selected as nominees based on their performances on the field. In April, Todd Frazier took home the hitting honors while Joseph Krebs was rewarded as the best pitcher. Catcher Devin Mesoraco was awarded hitting honors in May, with West Chester, Ohio native Matt Klinker winning the pitcher of the month honors.
The hitting nominees for the month of June are Zack Cozart, Justin Reed, and Brandon Waring. The pitching nominees are Derrick Conatser, Jeremy Horst, and Zach Stewart.
The winning players for the month of June will be honored on Friday, July 11th during an inning break of the game against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Fans can vote right now on daytondragons.com for the June Player of the Month nominees.
Past nominees and winners of this award have gone on to play in the major leagues with the Cincinnati Reds, including 2006 honorees Jay Bruce (2006-May and June) and Johnny Cueto (2006-April and May nominee), and 2007 winner Daryl Thompson (2007-April). Two of this year's winners have already been promoted to high-A Sarasota (Frazier and Krebs).

Hitter of the Month Nominees:
- Zack Cozart - Ranked first on the team in average (.309), hits (29), and home runs (5) for the month; His 15 extra base hits were five more than any of his teammates in June; Had a .606 slugging percentage for the month
- Justin Reed - Followed up a strong May with an even stronger June; Hit .286 with two home runs and 9 RBI; Had 24 hits to rank tied for second in the month
- Brandon Waring - Finished second in average (.289), hits (24), and home runs (4) while ranking first in RBIs (16) on the team; His 15 home runs on the season rank first among active Midwest League players
Pitcher of the Month Nominees:
- RHP Derrick Conatser - Made his Midwest League debut after joining the team in early June; In 10 games, has gone 1-0 with a 3.04 ERA; Opponents hit just .205 against him in June
- LHP Jeremy Horst - Went 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA in June; Led the Dragons in Wins and ERA for the month; Struck out 26 and walked just three in 18.0 innings
- RHP Zach Stewart - Drafted in the third round by the Reds in June, and joined the Dragons at the All-Star Break; Has not allowed a run in his first 8.0 innings with the Dragons; Has seven strikeouts and no walks in 8.0 innings
