Kernels rally falls short in 6-5 loss to Lugnuts

The Cedar Rapids Kernels dropped the second game of their four game series with the Lansing Lugnuts, 6-5, in front of 2,314 fans at Oldsmobile Field in Lansing on Tuesday night.

Lansing starter Kyle Ginley (5-5) allowed four runs (one earned) on eight hits and struck out two over seven innings pitched to get the win and reliever Eddy Rodriguez pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save of the season. Kernels starter Sean O'Sullivan gave up three runs on six hits and struck out eight over six innings in a no-decision effort.

Barret Browning (7-4) gave up two runs on three hits over an inning pitched and took the loss for the Kernels.

Peter Bourjos was 3 for 4 with a double, triple and 2 RBI and Tyler Johnson was 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI as the Kernels had ten hits on the night. Stantrel Smith was 1 for 2 with an RBI and Hank Conger had a pinch-hit RBI on a sac fly in the top of the ninth.

The loss drops the Kernels second half record to 17-20 as Lansing improves to 22-15.
