COMSTOCK PARK - Jeff Gerbe, Charlie Furbush and Brett Jensen combined to allow just 2 Peoria hits in a 3-1 Whitecaps win over the Chiefs.

Jeff Gerbe made his first appearance since June 22 following a three week stint on the disabled. The right hander threw three perfect innings as a starter, then was replaced by Charlie Furbush.

Brett Jensen threw a perfect ninth inning to record his 20th save of the season for West Michigan.

Brian Leclerc singled off Furbush to lead off the fourth. But Furbush retired the next 12 consecutive hitters.

West Michigan grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Ryan Strieby drove in James Skelton on an RBI single to center field.

The Whitecaps expanded the lead in the sixth when Scott Sizemore led off with a double then scored on a single by Skelton. Jordan Newton singled to left later in the inning to drive in Skelton and make the lead 3-0.

The only Chiefs run of the night came in the eighth inning when with two out right fielder Jeramy Laster slipped and fell as a line drive went over his head for a triple by Wellington Castillo. The next delivery to the plate by Furbush was a wild pitch that allowed Castillo to score.
