Admirals Winger Troy Brouwer Named Rbk Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month
April 2, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Admirals right wing Troy Brouwer has been named the Rbk Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month for March 2007.
The 21-year-old Brouwer (pronounced "BROW-uhr") led the AHL with 12 goals in March. He added six assists for 18 points. Brouwer had points in 10 of 11 games played - including six multi-point performances - and set or tied four franchise records for Norfolk.
On March 9, the 6'3, 215-lb. forward scored two goals against Binghamton to pass Rene Bourque (33, 2004-05) and Brandon Bochenski (33, 2006-07) for the most goals in a single season in Norfolk Admirals' history. On St. Patrick's Day against Bridgeport, Brouwer scored a goal in his sixth consecutive game to eclipse Casey Hankinson's former franchise-record that had stood since 2000-01. That game also marked the tenth straight contest with a point for Brouwer, establishing a new rookie scoring streak record with 11 goals and six assists in that span. Brouwer also tied a franchise record last Wednesday versus Philadelphia by scoring his 20th power play goal of the season, equaling Nathan Barrett's franchise-high total from last season.
The Vancouver, British Columbia, native has 40 goals and 37 assists for 77 points in 63 games for the Admirals. He is the highest-scoring rookie in Norfolk franchise history. Brouwer is currently ranked second in the AHL in goals and power play goals (20), is fifth in overall scoring and is tied for third in game-winning goals (7). Among AHL rookies, Brouwer is second in both points and goals and is tied for the lead in game-winning goals (7).
The 2004 seventh round draft pick (214th overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks on December 23 at Colorado. He appeared in ten games with Chicago this season going scoreless with seven penalty minutes. Brouwer won the Bob Clarke Trophy as the WHL's leading scorer last season with the Moose Jaw Warriors, registering 49 goals and 102 points in 72 games.
