Nolan Schaefer named Rbk X-Pulse/ AHL Goaltender of the Month

WILKES-BARRE, PA - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins netminder Nolan Schaefer has been named the Rbk X-Pulse/ AHL Goaltender of the Month, it was announced on Monday by the American Hockey League.

Schaefer was acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins from the San Jose Sharks for a seventh round selection in the 2007 Entry Draft on February 27, and was subsequently assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Since landing in Northeast Pennsylvania, Schaefer has posted an 8-3-0 record with a 1.98 goals against average, a .918 save percentage (22 goals agains/267 shots) and one shutout.

The former fifth round draft pick (166th overall in 2000) began the season with the Worcester Sharks, and also appeared in three games with the Hershey Bears, combining for a 5-11-3 record to go along with a 2.93 goals against average and .894 save percentage with those clubs.

Schaefer's overall statistics now stand at 13-14-3, with a 2.57 goals against average and a .902 save percentage in 31 games with the Penguins, Bears and Sharks.

The 27-year-old native of Yellow Grass, Sask., appeared in seven NHL games with San Jose in 2005-06, starting his NHL career with five straight wins.

In recognition of his achievement, Schaefer will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Penguins home game.
