TEAM NEWS & EVENTS
After beginning last week with a slim one-point lead over the Peoria Rivermen for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division, the Stars posted wins in three of their four games and expanded their lead to six points over Peoria.
The Iowa Stars lead the Grand Rapids Griffins of the North Division by one point, but the Griffins have a game-in-hand over the Stars. If the fifth place team in the West Division has more points than the fourth place team in the North Division, that team will crossover and play their respective playoff games within the North Division.
Iowa Goaltender Dan Ellis was nominated by the Stars for the AHL Player of the Week and AHL Goaltender of the Month Awards. Ellis' monthly stats included a March 7th shutout at Omaha; First Star nominations on March 7th and 16th, Second Star on March 10th, Third Star on March 20th, 23rd, 24th, and 27th; shootout win over Peoria where he stopped 7 of 8 shooters. Ellis registered four-straight wins in the middle of the month and finished March winning five of his last seven games.
