Huge East Division Battles On Tap this Week for the Admirals
April 2, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - The intensity in the battle for East Division supremacy will reach a new level this week, as the Admirals will battle the third-place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins twice and the first-place Hershey Bears once. Last week, the Admirals won two of three games but slipped to second place in the East Division. On Wednesday at Scope, Martin St. Pierre had a three-point night and newcomers Jake Dowell and Jack Skille both picked up their first pro points as the Admirals topped the century mark in points with a 6-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phantoms. The Admirals used a four-goal outburst in the second period - including Jack Skille's first pro goal - to defeat the Phantoms 5-1 on Friday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. Despite a pair of goals by Jack Skille, the Albany River Rats defeated the Admirals 5-3 on Saturday night at the Times Union Center.
The Admirals have two critical contests at Scope this week, both against the third-place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, before concluding the week in Hershey against the first-place Bears. In addition to jostling for playoff position, the Admirals will attempt to tie and/or set the AHL record for most home victories in a season and to reach 50 wins for the first time in franchise history. The Penguins visit Norfolk on Wednesday and Friday nights with 7:15 matchups at Scope. The Admirals travel to Hershey on Saturday night for their final regular season meeting against the division-leading Bears.

TEAM NOTEBOOK
- Norfolk will attempt to set a new AHL record for home victories in a season in their final two matches at Scope this season. The Admirals have 32 victories at Scope heading into this week's pair of contests against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The AHL record is 33 home wins by the 1987-88 Fredericton Express and the 1998-99 Providence Bruins. Both the Express and Bruins made it to the Calder Cup Finals in their historic seasons, with the Bruins winning the 1999 Calder Cup behind a perfect 10-0 post-season record at home.
- Pierre Parenteau is on a 12-game scoring streak in which he has five goals and 14 assists since March 3 at Worcester. It is the longest current scoring streak in the AHL and is two games shy of the franchise record scoring streak of 14 games set by Brandon Bochenski earlier this season.
- Martin St. Pierre is on a seven-game scoring streak (3g, 7a since March 16 vs. Bridgeport)
- Dustin Byfuglien is on a six-game scoring and assist streak (since 1g, 6a March 17 vs. Bridgeport)
- With a power play goal on Wednesday, Troy Brouwer reached the 40-goal plateau and also tied Nathan Barrett's (2005-06) single-season franchise record with 20 power play goals in a season. Brouwer is ranked second in the AHL only to Chicago Wolves forward and fellow rookie Brett Sterling in goals (40) and power play goals (20).
- University of Wisconsin Badgers teammates Jake Dowell and Jack Skille both scored their first pro points for the Admirals last week. Dowell scored a goal on Wednesday versus Philadelphia. Skille picked up two assists in that game and then scored his first pro goal on Friday at Philadelphia. Dowell and Skille join Adam Burish on the Admirals' lineup as teammates from the Badgers' 2006 NCAA Championship team.
