Zephyrs Take Down Iowa Cubs, Win Third Consecutive

DES MOINES, Iowa - Bryan Petersen picked up three hits and drove home a pair of runs as the New Orleans Zephyrs won their third consecutive defeating the Iowa Cubs 5-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Brian Flynn pitched six and two third innings allowed three runs on six hits and earned his first road win of the season. Flynn improves to (2-4) on the season and struckout a season high eight batters.

New Orleans scored a run in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Jake Smolinski scored on a Koyie Hill two out RBI double. The Cubs took the lead in the third inning scoring a pair of runs.

The Zephyrs tied the game in the fourth scoring a run on three hits. The Z's took the lead the fifth inning scoring a run on three hits. A two out double from Petersen brought home the run.

The Z's scored a pair of runs to extend their lead in the seventh. A wild inning had the Cubs throwing out a Zephyr at the plate. Gorkys Hernandez scored on a wild-pitch that was just a few feet from home plate and the catcher took a moment to find. Petersen singled to score Gil Velazquez to make it 5-2.

The Z's offense out-hit the Iowa Cubs 13-8 in the game. Iowa starter Chris Rusin (4-5) pitched seven innings and allowed five runs on 12 hits in the loss.

Chris Hatcher slammed the door in the ninth with his league leading 17thsave.

Game Notes - The Zephyrs added pitcher Jordan Conley from Class A Jupiter and placed Ben Lasater on the disabled list. The 17 saves for Hatcher leads all of Minor League Baseball. The Zephyrs bullpen has worked 16 consecutive scoreless innings.
