Padres Down Reno in 10 Innings
June 2, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release
Dean Anna's tenth-inning RBI single brought home the go-ahead run to help the Tucson Padres defeat the Reno Aces 8-6 Saturday at Aces Ballpark. The extra-inning win was the third of the season for the Padres (30-26) who are now one game out of first place in the Southern Division.
Tucson went ahead early when Jaff Decker blasted his fifth home run of the year to give the Padres a 1-0 lead. Reno responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning on Matt Davidson's RBI double to center. The Padres and Aces produced a pair of triples and sacrifice flies in the third to keep the game tied. Tuffy Gosewisch sent a two-run home run off the scoreboard past left field to put Reno ahead 4-2 in the fourth.
Tucson rallied for four runs in the fifth with the help of RBI singles from Logan Forsythe, Brandon Allen and Rene Rivera. Davidson and Tyler Kuhn both hit RBI doubles in the seventh to knot the score at 6-6. The Padres had a chance to take back the lead in the eighth with the bases-loaded and two outs, but Reno reliever Matt Gorgen was able to get Decker to fly out to center to end the threat. Jesus Merchan led off the tenth with double and later scored the go-ahead run on Anna's single to right. Cody Decker added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to bring home Anna and give the Padres a two-run cushion.
Miles Mikolas earned his second win of the season after tossing two scoreless frames, while Evan Marshall was charged with the loss for Reno. Anthony Bass, who was making his first start for Tucson, went four innings and allowed four runs on eight hits, while striking out eight. Reno manager Brett Butler, hitting coach Greg Gross and center fielder Tony Campana were all ejected during the game.
Next Game: Sunday, 1:05 pm at Reno (Diamondbacks affiliate) - Tucson RHP Burch Smith (1-0, 1.80) vs. Reno RHP Randall Delgado (1-4, 6.84). Game coverage begins at 12:55 pm on 1290 AM The Source.
