Magill Recalled by Dodgers, Guerra Returns to Isotopes

Right-handed pitcher Javy Guerra returns to the Albuquerque Isotopes today, June 2, after being optioned by the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 31. The Los Angeles Dodgers today recalled right-hander Matt Magill from Triple-A Albuquerque. Elian Herrera has been activated from the temporarily inactive list to rejoin the Isotopes and Alfredo Amezaga has been released.

Guerra made nine relief appearances with the Dodgers after his recall on April 30, posting a 6.75 ERA (8 ER/10.2 IP). The 6-foot-1 hurler holds a 0-2 record with Triple-A Albuquerque this season, posting a 4.02 ERA (7 ER/15.2 IP) in four starts. His last outing on April 26 was his longest of the season, tossing five innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits, but suffered the loss. Guerra was selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft and made his Major League Debut on May 15, 2011 at Dodger Stadium against Arizona.

Magill will make today's start at Colorado for Los Angeles. Magill, 23, has made four Major League starts this season without recording a decision, while posting a 5.50 ERA. He last pitched on May 25 for Triple-A Albuquerque at Nashville, picking up the win by allowing just two hits in 6.0 scoreless innings, and has gone 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA in five starts for the Isotopes. Magill last appeared in a big league game on May 19 at Atlanta, when in he tossed 5.0 innings of one-run ball in a no-decision.

Amezaga joined the Dodgers organization on January 5, 2013 when he signed with the club as a free agent. In 36 games with the Isotopes, the Mexico native hit .328 (39-for-119) with two home runs and 24 RBI. He was tied for second on the team in doubles with nine. The 5-foot-11 infielder was originally selected by the Anaheim Angels in the 13th round of the 1999 First-Year Player Draft.

Herrera returns to the Isotopes after being placed on the temporarily inactive list on May 30. He is hitting .304 (55-for-181) and leads the 2013 Isotopes with 55 hits and holds the active team-lead in runs with 32. The 28-year-old Dominican has swiped 11 bases, trailing just Gordon for the team lead.
