
Tucson Bats Hot from the Start in Win over Reno

The Tucson Padres pounded 18 hits and had five players with multi-hit games in their 13-5 win at Aces Ballpark Sunday.
The Padres got off to a fast start with seven runs and seven hits in the first two innings. Tucson sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the first with three runs coming on two-out hits from Rene Rivera and Jesus Merchan. Logan Forsythe's two-run double and Rivera's second RBI single of the game in the top of the second extend the Padres lead to 7-0.
Matt Davidson's leadoff home run in the bottom of the second scored the Aces first run of the game. Forsythe led off the fourth with a triple to center and later scored on Brandon Allen's RBI groundout. Forsythe finished 3-for-4 with a walk, falling a home run shy of the Tucson Padres first cycle. After Jonathan Galvez reached on an error in the fourth, Rivera blasted his third home run of the season to give Tucson a 10-1 advantage. Chris Owings extended his PCL best 21-game hitting streak with an RBI single in the fifth. Reno scored three runs in final four innings.
Cameron Maybin sent a two-run home run off the left field scoreboard to put the Padres up 12-4 in the ninth. Jesus Merchan went 4-for-6 with three RBIs in the win.
Burch Smith won his second game in as many starts for Tucson, going five inning and allowing two runs on five hits. Bryan Henry lost his first game of the year after allowing six hits and seven runs in a spot start for Reno.
