Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - Stefen Romero collected three hits as the Tacoma Rainiers fell to the Sacramento River Cats 9-2 at Cheney Stadium on Sunday.
Romero accounted for nearly half of Tacoma's eight hits after going 3-for-4 with a double. The outfielder has turned in multi-hit outings in four out of his last five games and is now batting a combined.404 (19x47) through 12 appearances since May 19.
Eric Thames turned in Tacoma's other multi-hit game after going 2-for-4 with a double. Mike Zunino produced his team-leading 42nd RBI of the season after drawing a bases-loaded walk in the eighth, and Brad Miller drove in another Rainiers run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
The River Cats scored six of their nine runs via four homers on Sunday. Michael Choice broke open a scoreless game with a solo shot in the sixth, and Hiroyuki Nakajima stretched Sacramento's 2-0 lead to three runs with a one-run blast in the seventh. Grant Green and Shane Peterson both hit two-run home runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Starter Erasmo Ramirez (0-1, 3.18) was dealt the loss in his first start with the Rainiers after joining the roster from Double-A Jackson earlier in the day. The right-hander surrendered two runs on six hits over 5.2 innings, while walking three and striking out four.
At 36-23, Tacoma maintains the best record in the Pacific Coast League, and following Colorado Springs' loss at Salt Lake earlier in the day, the Rainiers continue to hold a 2.5-game lead over the Sky Sox in the Pacific Northern Division standings.
The Rainiers host the third game of their four-game series with Sacramento (32-25) at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow, June 3. Right-hander Brandon Maurer (0-0, -.--) is slated to make his Tacoma debut against former Rainiers left-hander Justin Thomas (3-3, 4.34).
