Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Jeff Zatkoff made 35 saves to record his second shutout of the season and lead the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 3-0 win over the Binghamton Senators on Saturday at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (17-10-1-2) enters the holiday break in first place in the East Division with a five-point lead over the Hershey Bears.
The Penguins raced ahead in the first period and built their lead on a trio of goals scored over a span of 5:08. Defenseman Alex Boak got things started at 8:36 when his wrist shot from the point deflected off a stick, popped up in the air and over the shoulder of Senators goalie Scott Greenham before bouncing across the goal line. Matia Marcantuoni and Dominik Uher collected the assists on Boak's first goal of his pro career.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went up by a score of 2-0 as Nick Drazenovic stickhandled into the Senators zone and let loose with a wrist shot from the far circle that found the top corner of the net with 7:01 remaining until the first intermission.
Forty-five seconds later, Conor Sheary caught up to the long rebound from a shot gone wide by Brad Mills and took the puck coast-to-coast before beating Greenham from the same spot in the Binghamton zone as Drazenovic.
The score held for the rest of regulation as Zatkoff and the Penguins were able to fend off a late 5-on-3 power play for the Senators and preserve the shutout victory.
Zatkoff is 6-0-1 in his last seven starts and has won four in a row. Greenham stopped 21-of-24 shots for Binghamton.
