
Pirates Win in OT to Head into Holiday Break

Portland, Me.- The Portland Pirates (14-15-1-0) got their first win in seven games when they beat the Worcester Sharks (11-13-3-0) by a tally of 4-3 in overtime. Greg Miller scored twice in the game, his first two goals in the American Hockey League.
The game started well for the Pirates when Miller scored at 14:53 in the first period, with assists from Henrik Samuelsson and Dylan Reese. Worcester tied it up soon after with a power play goal from Michael Haley, assisted by Bryan Lerg and Taylor Fedun at 18:14.
The Pirates retaliated with a Darian Dziurzynski goal at 3:40, assisted by Corey Trivino and Philip Samuelsson. Miller found the back of the net for the second time of the night at 6:59 with assists from Jordan Martinook and goalie Mike McKenna, his first point of the season. The Sharks started to chip away at the Pirates lead when Lerg scored at 8:49 with assists from Evan Trupp and Gus Young. They tied it back up at three a piece thanks to an Adam Burish goal at 12:45, assisted by Ryan Carpenter and Greger Hanson.
The two teams remained in a deadlock for the entirety of the third frame, leading to an overtime period, the Pirates second in as many nights. Reese ended the game with a goal at 5:45 in the sudden-death period, assisted by Tyler Gaudet and Lucas Lessio.
McKenna (10-11-1) had an amazing night in net, stopping 43 of 46 shots from the Sharks. Troy Grosenick posted up in net for Worcester, saving 19 of 23 Pirates shots.
After tonight's win, the Pirates head into the holiday break. They're back in action on December 27 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. at 7:05 p.m. to take on the Monarchs in another VIP Cup matchup presented by VIP Tires and Service. They'll then head to the DCU Center in Worcester, Ma. to face-off against the Sharks at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 28. The Pirates return home for a game on New Years Eve, December 31 at 7 p.m. against the Hartford Wolf Pack. The game starts at 5:30 and will feature post-game in arena fireworks.
