Springfield Falcons News Release

Hershey, Pa. - The Springfield Falcons downed the Hershey Bears, 2-1, in overtime tonight at the Giant Center.

The victory increases the Falcons to 20-9-1-0 on the season and keeps the team on top of the Northeast Division with 41 points. The Bears fall to 14-11-3-1. Tonight's contest also wrapped up the two-game season series between the teams. Springfield finished the series at 1-1-0-0.

Falcons netminder Anton Forsberg turned away 34 of 35 shots on goal, while his Bears counterpart Philipp Grubauer stopped 26 of 28 in defeat. Springfield converted on one of three power play opportunities. The penalty kill unit successfully shut down all four Hershey man-advantages.

The Falcons were first on the board at the 7:40 mark of the opening period and carried their lead to the first intermission. While on the man-advantage, Austin Madaisky fired home his ninth of the season from the top of the right circle with the help of T.J. Tynan and Luke Adam. With the assist, Adam has earned a point in both of his Falcons appearances since being traded to the Columbus organization this week.

Just 5:34 into the middle frame, the Bears evened the score, 1-1. On a two-on-one play, Dane Byers passed along the blue line to Chandler Stephenson. Stephenson beat Forsberg with a wrist shot from the right face-off dot. Tomas Kundratek earned credit for the secondary assist.

An even third period forced an extra frame, where the Falcons took the victory during 3-on-3 play. With 30 seconds remaining in overtime, Jaime Sifers sent the puck out to Tynan on the breakaway. Tynan's shot bounced off the post and was kicked across the goal line by Grubauer. Frederic St. Denis also picked up a point on the game-winner.

The Falcons are back in action on Dec. 26 when they travel to face the Hartford Wolf Pack.
