Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans allowed four unanswered goals after scoring twice in the opening four minutes in a 4-2 loss to the Milwaukee Admirals Saturday night at The Blue Cross Arena. The Amerks, playing in their last game prior to the Christmas break, see their record fall to 11-18-1-0 on the season.
Joel Armia and Tim Schaller each scored for the Amerks. Andrey Makarov started in net and made 12 saves for Rochester as his personal record drops to 7-9-1 on the year. Schaller's goal, his eighth of the season, was the forward's second in as many games.
Colton Sissons scored the eventual game-winning goal in the third period for the Admirals, with Joe Pendenza, Brendan Leipsic and Austin Watson also figuring in on the scoresheet. Marek Mazanec turned aside 28 shots in goal for the win.
The Amerks jumped ahead to a two-goal lead just 3:59 into the contest, with the scores coming just 28 seconds apart. The first, scored by Armia, came following a face-off win from Phil Varone that saw the puck slide right over to the second-year forward. Armia, playing in just his second game after missing nine in a row, quickly shifted to his back-hand and lifted the puck into the top corner, putting Rochester up 1-0.
Rochester's second goal came when Schaller got loose from a Milwaukee defender in front and accepted a pass from Zac Dalpe. Schaller took a quick wrist-shot before Mazanec could react, putting the Amerks in front by two goals.
Milwaukee cut Rochester's lead in half with 5:55 left in the second period on the power-play, when Pendenza caught a piece of Anthony Bitetto's shot and tipped the puck in. The visitors evened the score at 2-2 a mere 2:54 later after Leipsic's dump-in from the red line took a strange hop and bounced past Makarov.
The Admirals took their first lead of the night just 1:20 into the third period, as Leipsic sent a stretch pass through center ice to Sissons, who cruised in all alone and put the puck over Makarov's shoulder for the go-ahead goal.
In an attempt to tie the score late in the contest, the Amerks pulled Makarov for the extra skater with 1:55 remaining in the third period. With the open cage, Milwaukee picked off the puck in the neutral zone, eventually leading to Watson one-skipping the puck into the net to seal the 4-2 victory for the Admirals.
The Amerks resume their season-long eight-game homestand following the Christmas break on Friday, Dec. 26 when the Lake Erie Monsters arrive in Rochester for a 7:05 p.m. matchup at The Blue Cross Arena. The game will be the first of just four meetings on the season between the former North Division rivals and will be carried live on FOX Sports 1280 Rochester.
