Salt Lake Bees News Release
Eric Young Jr. hit two home runs in a game for the first time in nearly nine years, but it was not enough for the Bees who dropped their fourth straight to El Paso 5-4 in front of 11,333 fans at Smith's Ballpark.
Young Jr. last hit two home run game came on July 9, 2009 as a member of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Smith's Ballpark against the Bees. Young Jr. hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to give the Bees a 2-1 lead and then lead off the fifth with a solo homer. Salt Lake held a 4-1 lead after five, but the Chihuahuas nipped away with a run in the sixth and seventh and two runs in the eighth to take the lead. Young added a double to his total, but flied out to the wall in the Bees final at bat, just missing his first career three homer game.
Salt Lake only managed four hits outside of Young's three with Matt Thaiss recording a triple and Jose Miguel Fernandez added a double. Luis Pena got the start on the mound for the Bees and turned in five and one-thirds innings of two run ball walking five and striking out eight. Tyler Stevens took the loss in his Triple-A debut giving up two runs over the final two innings.
