Tacoma Rainiers News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Infielder Gordon Beckham drove in the winning run in the ninth inning of the Tacoma Rainiers (47-42) 2-1 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes (44-44) on Saturday night at Isotopes Park.

Beckham posted his best outing of the year to pace Tacoma on offense. He finished the night with four hits - including a double and a solo home run - one run scored, and two RBI. Beckham ended the night just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

No other Tacoma player notched multiple hits, although right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis reached base twice on a 1-for-3 performance that included a double, a run scored, and a walk.

Rainiers starting pitcher Casey Lawrence carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning and ultimately turned in his fourth quality start of the year. He allowed just one run on two hits over six innings of work while walking two and striking out five. Lawrence did not factor into the decision.

Tacoma's bullpen silenced the Albuquerque offense over the final three innings, allowing just two hits. Darin Gillies (1.2 IP), Daniel Schlereth (0.1 IP), and Shawn Armstrong (1.0 IP) all contributed to the effort. Schlereth (2-0) earned his second win of the year, while Armstrong tallied his seventh save.

The Rainiers and Isotopes wrap up the first half of the season on Sunday night at 5:05 p.m. PT. Right-hander Christian Bergman (5-6, 4.56) will start for Tacoma, opposite Albuquerque righty Jon Gray (1-0, 3.00).
