Iowa Cubs News Release
NASHVILLE, TN - The Nashville Sounds (41-45) took control of the game in the first and never let up as the Iowa Cubs (31-56) took a 5-3 loss, Saturday at First Tennessee Park.
Nashville rocked Jen-Ho Tseng for four runs, three earned, in the first inning with the help of Ramon Laureano and Franklin Barreto home runs, but the righty would settle in after that. Tseng held the Sounds without a hit through the remaining four innings of his outing and walked just one. He ended his night after fanning seven over 5.0 frames.
Iowa would do its damage in the fifth, making the most of a Wynton Bernard leadoff double. Jacob Hannemann singled through the hole at shortstop to corner the situation and a passed ball would score the I-Cubs' first run. A Bijan Rademacher single brought in Hannemann later in the inning as Iowa cut the deficit in half.
Sheldon Neuse tagged Nashville's third homer of the game in the seventh off Alberto Baldonado to push the Sounds to a three-run lead, which the I-Cubs quickly countered. Singles from Rademacher, Ryan Court and Taylor Davis led to an eighth-inning run, but Iowa fell short of the comeback.
Tseng was tagged with his sixth-straight loss and fell to 2-10 on the season. Norge Ruiz (1-1) earned his first win of the season with 3.0 one-run relief innings.
Jason Vosler went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games - the longest streak for an I-Cub this season. Rademacher and Trey Martin each chipped in two-hit nights.
Iowa and Nashville play the final game before the Triple-A All-Star break at 6:15 tomorrow at First Tennessee Park. Tune in to AM 940, www.iowacubs.com or MiLB.tv to follow the action.
