Round Rock Express News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma - The Round Rock Express (42-46) had their five-game winning streak snapped after a 6-5 loss at the hands of the Oklahoma City Dodgers (46-38) on Saturday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Park.
Round Rock reliever LHP Jeffery Springs (0-2, 4.63) suffered the loss after allowing Oklahoma City to take their first lead of the night in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Express reliever RHP Deolis Guerra started the frame on the hill with the visitors in command of the lead at 5-2. After the Dodgers loaded the bases on two singles and a walk, Springs would take over and issued a pair of bases-loaded walks before surrendering a two-run single to Oklahoma City SS Angelo Mora, putting the Dodgers in front 6-5.
In the top of the ninth, Oklahoma City reliever RHP Brian Schlitter retired the Express in order to secure his 11th save of the year, and the Dodgers victory. OKC RHP Zach Neal (1-0, 3.55) earned the win for his 3.0-frame effort from the sixth through the eighth in which he permitted just one earned run on two hits and a walk.
In the loss, Round Rock LF Willie Calhoun extended his longest hitting streak of the season to 14 consecutive games when he took part in the E-Train's five-single, three-run first inning.
The man responsible for Round Rock's last two runs was rehabbing Texas Rangers C Carlos Perez, who recorded his first extra-base hit of the season on an RBI double in the top of the fifth before blasting his first Express home run in the eighth, a solo shot to deep left field. Since his rehab assignment was transferred from Frisco earlier in the week, Perez is hitting .444 in three starts at the Triple-A level this season.
While he ended up with the no decision, Round Rock starter RHP Adrian Sampson turned in another solid outing on the mound by tossing 5.1 innings of two-run ball. The 26-year-old hurler allowed just six hits while striking out three and walking none.
The Express and Dodgers will wrap up the five-game series on Sunday afternoon at Chickasaw Bricktown Park. Round Rock LHP David Hurlbut (3-5, 4.86) is scheduled to start on the hill against Oklahoma City RHP Drew Hutchinson (2-1, 3.00). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. CDT.
