Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - In conjunction with the Minnesota Twins, the Cedar Rapids Kernels announce that infielder Yeltsin Encarnacion has been transferred to the Double-A Wichita Wind Surge. This roster move was disseminated by Brian Maloney, Minnesota Twins Senior Manager, Minor League Operations.
A native of Azua, Dominican Republic, Encarnacion appeared in six games over his first two stints with Cedar Rapids this year featuring an eighth-inning walk-off single May 9 to complete a doubleheader sweep versus the Peoria Chiefs. He also served as the primary second baseman for the Triple-A St. Paul Saints during his two-plus weeks on their roster.
This transaction marks Encarnacion's first-ever Double-A assignment. That is the only level of the Minnesota Twins minor league system that he has no previous playing experience. Minnesota signed Encarnacion as an international free agent in 2015.
The Kernels now have an active roster of 28 players along with four individuals on the injured list, one man on the temporary inactive list, and one person on the restricted list.
Cedar Rapids opens June with 12 consecutive road games beginning with Tuesday's series opener versus the Fort Wayne TinCaps at 7:05 p.m. ET (6:05 p.m. CT). Kernels right-hander Tyler Beck (1-0, 2.25) will face TinCaps right-hander Moises Lugo (0-1, 3.50), and Chris Kleinhans-Schulz will have the call on www.kernels.com.
The next Kernels homestand will go from June 15 through June 27. Fans can purchase tickets for all Cedar Rapids Kernels home games by visiting www.kernels.com, going to the Kernels Ticket Office, or calling (319) 896-7560. The Kernels Ticket Office is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. On Sundays when the Kernels have a home game, the Kernels Ticket Office will open at 11:00 a.m.
