Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas- The Allen Americans defeated the Odessa Jackalopes Saturday night 6-5 in overtime, in front of 4,599 at the Allen Event Center. The game was the second night of Americans Fight Cancer Weekend, with fans wearing purple in support of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. The first 1,000 kids in attendance received an Americans mini stick courtesy of Uncle Bob's Self Storage.
The Americans got on the board first just 35 seconds into the first period, when Nino Musitelli scored on a backhander with Judd Blackwater and Mike Berube providing the assists. Musitelli grabbed the pass from Blackwater on his forehand, and immediately switched to the backhand before beating Jackalopes Goaltender Michel Robinson for the marker.
Odessa evened the score later in the period when Mike Ramsay scored a power play goal at 8:30, on a second chance opportunity created by a Mike Lesperance shot.
Jeff Pierce gave the âJacks a 2-1 advantage when he lit the lamp from the slot, scoring a power play goal at 3:49 of the second period. Phillippe Plante followed with a power play tally of his own 13:13 into the frame, with Sebastien Thinel and Lesperance assisting on the play.
Liam Huculak scored from the slot at 14:20 to bring the Americans back to within one, but only to have Kenny Corupe answer again less than two minutes later with a wrister from the right circle.
Closing out the second stanza, Colton Yellow Horn buried a power play blast from the slot with 9 seconds remaining, to once again bring the Americans within one. The second period was also filled with scraps, as Kip Brennan and Garrett Gruenke went toe to toe, followed immediately by Huculak and Darryl Bootland.
In an incredibly entertaining third period, David Strathman scored at 8:18 to tie the game at 4. Huculak and David Nimmo grabbed assists on the play. Colton Yellow Horn then scored a highlight reel goal less than a minute later to put the Americans on top 5-4. Yellow Horn took a pass in front of the net, made several moves, and after two defensemen slid by deposited the puck past Robinson.
Just when it looked like the Americans were going to win the game by that score, Ramsay fired a bullet over the pad of Americans Goaltender Scott Campbell to tie the game up at 5.
In Overtime, Yellow Horn would not be denied, scoring on a 3rd chance opportunity in front of the net to give his team the 6-5 victory; the 14th in 16 tries.
Allen returns to action Sunday afternoon at 2PM at the Allen Event Center. The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees make their only appearance of the season in Allen to close out Americans Fight Cancer Weekend.
