Fort Wayne shuts down Gems, 2-0

February 12, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release

Just one day after an exciting overtime win, the Dayton Gems were shut down by Fort Wayne on Saturday night.

Dayton was shutout 2-0 by the Komets. It's the first time since Nov. 25 the Gems were shutout and only the third time all season.

The Komets outshot the Gems 36-20 on the night. Dayton never took more than nine shots in a single period.

The 20 total shots is the least amount of shots the Gems have taken in a game.

Neither team was able to do much in the opening period, but in the closing seconds of the first frame, the Komets were able to score and take a 1-0 lead. Tab Lardner has now scored 19 times this season.

Fort Wayne then added to its lead in the second with a goal by P.C. Drouin. With the assist coming from Colin Chaulk, the Komets took a 2-0 into the final period.

The game would end that way as neither team was able to record a goal in the third period.

The Gems will play again at Hara Arena on Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. against Quad City. This is a Family Kroger Day and all tickets will be a buy-one-get-one free when you show your Kroger Plus Card at the ticket window.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
