Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - A potent powerplay gave the Brahmas a comeback from behind victory Saturday at home as they defeated the Killer Bees 4-3 in overtime.
Chad Woollard, who owns arguably one of the hardest shots in the league, displayed his signature shot on the powerplay when he blazed the puck from the top of the point past Rio goaltender Jerad Kaufmann for a Texas lead. The excitement in the building went up a notch as the faceoff at center ice became the stage for a fight between Brahmas enforcer Mike Sgroi and Bee's forward Brett Clouthier.
At the 9:17 mark in the game Nick Sucharski was tripped up on a breakaway leading to a penalty shot attempt; only to be stopped by Texas netminder Wayne Savage. A goal from Zak McClellan, with just over a minute remaining in the first evened the game sending the teams to a 1-1 tie to the locker rooms.
The first shot in the second period found its way to the back of the net for the Bees and a deflected shot by Tyler Lehrke in front of Savage gave the visitors a 3-1 lead. Sgroi had the opportunity to cut the lead with a penalty shot of his own but was rejected by Kaufmann. The struggling Brahmas powerplay seemed to have been revived for the contest when :30 seconds into the man advantage, Greg Hogeboom netted the special teams tally, his 20th of the season.
Texas' third goal was their third powerplay goal in the game when Hogeboom went top shelf for his second of the night to tie the score and send the game into the extra period. With 3:39 left in the overtime, Darryl McArthur found a wide open Brian Ihnacak for the game winner. The Brahmas went 3 for 6 on the powerplay.
It will be back to the road for the Brahmas when they face the Laredo Bucks for a 7 pm faceoff Tuesday evening. Following the brief trip, Texas will host a three game homestand beginning Friday against Odessa and Saturday against Allen; both with 7:30 pm starts. On Monday, February 21 the Brahmas have a game against the Wichita Thunder at a special "President's Day" time, 6 pm.
