Somerset Patriots News Release

Bridgewater, NJ - Major League Baseball has announced that Somerset Patriots shortstop and New York Yankees top prospect Anthony Volpe has been selected to be a part of the 2022 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on July 16 at Dodger Stadium.

Volpe joins fellow Yankees prospects LHP Ken Waldichuk (No. 5) and OF Jasson Dominguez (No. 3), as well as former Delbarton teammate and current Texas Rangers prospect Jack Leiter, in this year's game.

Volpe is the second Patriots player to be selected to the Futures Game after RHP Luis Medina in 2021.

Since being assigned to Double-A Somerset in April, the 21-year-old has ranked among the team and league's offensive leaders in multiple categories. Volpe has amassed 11 homeruns, a team-high 41 RBI and 48 runs scored (3rd in the Eastern League), as well as an Eastern League best 33 stolen bases. On the diamond, he has turned 33 double plays with a .969 fielding average.

On June 26, Volpe helped the Patriots clinch their first playoff spot since becoming the Yankees Double-A affiliate with a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th at TD Bank Ballpark against the Hartford Yard Goats.

Across the entire month of June, Volpe posted a season-best .298/.360/.538 slash line and recorded a 12-game hitting streak from June 21 to July 4. During that stretch, he went 15-for-46 with a .326/.404/.652 slash line, 1.052 OPS, nine RBI, 10 runs, four home runs, three doubles, five walks, and nine stolen bases.

After ending a successful four-year career at Delbarton High School in Morristown, New Jersey, Volpe was drafted with the 30th overall pick by the Yankees in the 2019 MLB draft. He then worked his way up from rookie ball in 2019 to Single-A in 2021, where he slashed .294/.423/.604 between Low-A Tampa and High-A Hudson Valley.
