Altoona Curve News Release

AKRON, OH - Altoona catcher Henry Davis has been named to the National League roster for the SiriusXM Futures Game, which is slated to take place on 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. EST at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, July 16.

Across appearances with the FCL Pirates, Low-A Bradenton, High-A Greensboro and Altoona, Davis is batting .274 with 11 2B, 2 3B, 10 HR, 38 RBI and 6 stolen bases in 49 games this season. Selected by the Pirates first overall in 2021 out of Louisville, Davis became the seventh catcher selected first overall in the draft; first since Baltimore selected Adley Rutschman in 2019. Davis is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the No. 4 catching prospect in the game and 19th in their Top-100 players in the minors.

When he suited up for his team debut on Tuesday, May 10 against Somerset, Davis became the first position player selected first overall to suit up for the Curve joining RHP Kris Benson (1996 / 2002 rehab with the Curve), RHP Bryan Bullington (2002, 2004 with Curve) and RHP Gerrit Cole (2011 / 2012 with Curve). Davis and infielder Nick Gonzales are the first top-10 draft choices to appear on the active roster for the Curve since 2012 when RHP Jameson Taillon (second overall) and Cole (first overall) shared the same rotation in Altoona.

Davis becomes the 21st player in franchise history to be selected to the Futures Game following Roansy Contreras' selection in 2021. He is also the first catcher to represent the Pirates at the Futures Game since Elias Diaz did so in 2015.

In addition to Davis, former Curve RHP Mike Burrows was also selected to the game. Burrows made 12 starts with Altoona to begin the season going 4-2 with a 2.94 ERA before his promotion to Triple-A Indianapolis on June 16. The 22-year-old was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 29 after he spun seven scoreless innings that week against the Harrisburg Senators.

2022 marks the second straight season that the Pirates have had two players selected to the event after Contreras and Quinn Priester for last season's game in Denver, CO.

Altoona returns to Peoples Natural Gas Field on Tuesday, July 11 for a six-game series with the Richmond Flying Squirrels. For tickets and more information about Curve Baseball, visit AltoonaCurve.com, call 877.99.CURVE or stop by the PNG Field box office.
