Yager, Unger, Burnett & Canada Red Topped in Gold Medal Game

Brayden Yager, Jackson Unger and Assistant coach Gord Burnett will be bringing back a silver medal from the 2021 Capital City Challenge.

Canada Red, which featured the three Moose Jaw Warriors' representatives, lost 5-4 in overtime to Canada Black in the gold medal game on Wednesday in Ottawa.

Yager assisted on Prince George Cougars forward Riley Heidt's go-ahead goal, which made 4-3 for Canada Red with just 29 seconds to play.

Winnipeg ICE forward Zach Benson tied the game with just 0.4 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to three-on-three overtime.

In the extra period, Oshawa Generals forward Calum Ritchie won the game for Canada Black.

Unger stopped 35 of 40 shots in the loss for Canada Red. He finished with a 3-0-1 record over four starts, posting a 2.17 goals against average and a 0.927 save percentage, including one shutout.

Yager led Canada Red in scoring with four goals and seven points over five games during his first chance to wear the Team Canada sweater.

The three Warriors are expected to rejoin the team on their Alberta road trip.
