
Jakub Demek Named to Team Slovakia's Preliminary Roster for World Junior Championship

Edmonton, AB - Edmonton Oil Kings forward Jakub Demek has been named to Team Slovakia's preliminary roster ahead of the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Demek, a Kosice, Slovakia native, is in his first season with the Oil Kings after the organization selected him with their first-round pick, 47th-overall, in the 2021 CHL Import Draft.
Through 23 games this season, he has racked up 25 points (9G, 16A), 18 penalty minutes and a +6 plus/minus rating. His 25 points currently ranks second amongst all rookie skaters in the WHL, while his nine goals rank fourth.
The 6-foot-4, 196-pound centermen is a prospect of the Vegas Golden Knights after the NHL club selected him in the fourth-round, 128th-overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft.
Demek could become just the second Oil Kings player in franchise history to represent Slovakia at the World Junior Championships, joining former defenceman Martin Gernat (2011).
Team Slovakia's camp will begin on December 11 in Piestany, Slovakia. Demek will join the the team when they makes their way to Red Deer on December 16.
